Choosing a forklift
Three questions before you spend a cent

What is your heaviest single load?
Rate the machine to your worst day, not your average one. Capacity is quoted at a 500 mm or 600 mm load centre — if your pallet sits further out than that, the machine lifts less than the sticker says. This is the number one reason people end up with the wrong forklift.

What are you driving on?
Smooth concrete suits a cushion tyre and opens up the electric range. Gravel yards, building sites and paddocks need pneumatic or rough-terrain running gear, and almost always diesel.

How high, and through what opening?
Mast height at full lift has to clear your top rack, and the lowered mast height has to fit through the shed door.

What size forklift do I need?
Take your heaviest load, add the weight of the pallet or bin it sits on, then add about 20% headroom. Match that to a capacity band, and check the load centre — a long or deep load reduces what the machine can safely lift.

Diesel, electric or LPG?
Diesel for outdoor work, rough ground, heavy loads and long shifts with no charging setup. Electric for indoor work where exhaust and noise are a problem — food handling, cool rooms, enclosed sheds. LPG sits between the two: clean enough for a semi-enclosed shed, but refuelled with a two-minute cylinder change instead of a charge cycle, and happy outdoors. If the machine never leaves the concrete, electric is usually cheapest to run.

Three wheels or four?
Three-wheelers turn much tighter, which matters in narrow aisles. Four wheels give more stability under load and on uneven floors. If you're stacking high or your floor isn't flat, take the four-wheeler.

Do you deliver to Dubbo, Orange or Bathurst?
Yes. We deliver across Central and Western NSW most weeks, and float machines Australia-wide. Delivery is quoted with the machine, not bolted on afterwards.

Can I finance a forklift?
Yes, through AGCON Finance — chattel mortgage, hire purchase or lease. Pre-approval is usually back within one business day, and we can finance machines bought elsewhere too.
